It’s been far too long since my last post. our weekends have been filled with fun birthday parties and family dinners and reunions and and our weeks are filled with getting back into the school year routines.
Summer is slipping away, the highs are in the low 70s these days and the desire to create comfort food each day has taken over. And with that a fresh desire to make my little home comfortable for the colder months ahead. Why is it I feel more like spring cleaning in the fall than in the spring? Anyway, here’s what’s been going on at our house…
In the kitchen
These cookies – Soft Glazed Pumpkin Sugar Cookies – I’ve made them twice in the last month and they are a big hit. I think they will be around all fall.
This potato soup – I haven’t tried it yet, but it’s on the menu for this fall.
In the Craft Room
I’m big on scrapbooking, but sometimes, I don’t want to have to go looking in a book on a shelf to see the things that I wanted to save, so I have started putting them in frames first, and then when I get tired of staring at it, I’ll put it in the scrapbook… or maybe I’ll realize that I really didn’t need to save these things after all, and they will hit the recycling bin. And yes, I am aware that this is pretty much Pinterest in paper form… but what can I say? I’m old-school like that.
On the camera
I had the privilege to do a photo shoot with these lovely sisters last month. Easiest shoot ever!
These girls need no coaching when it comes to placement and expression.
They are the best.
In the Word
I can’t get enough of these two:
“Look back, God has been sufficient,
so what reason do you have to suspect that He will not befriend you to the end?
It is a great comfort to stand on divine faithfulness.”
“For I know that my Redeemer lives,
and at the last he will stand upon the earth.
And after my skin has been thus destroyed,
yet in my flesh I shall see God,
whom I shall see for myself,
and my eyes shall behold, and not another.”
Not only has Christ travelled the road, but He has slain thine enemies. Dost thou dread sin? He has nailed it to His cross. Dost thou fear death? He has been the death of Death. Art thou afraid of hell? He has barred it against the advent of any of His children; they shall never see the gulf of perdition. Whatever foes may be before the Christian, they are all overcome. There are lions, but their teeth are broken; there are serpents, but their fangs are extracted; there are rivers, but they are bridged or fordable; there are flames, but we wear that matchless garment which renders us invulnerable to fire. The sword that has been forged against us is already blunted; the instruments of war which the enemy is preparing have already lost their point. God has taken away in the person of Christ all the power that anything can have to hurt us.
Charles Spurgeon – Morning and Evening – 8/24
Biggest spider ever… by the river.
It was about 45º at the top of the mountain… and windy
I had some raspberries that I needed to do something with, so I went hunting down a simple muffin recipe. And found just what I was looking for HERE. And you know? I like it! Enough to share with you.
*On a side note: I didn’t stir the batter as much as she suggests, because I was always advised not to over mix quick breads.
